Zentangles and Self-Expression (Art)- Students learn the origin and benefits of creating Zentangles. They will review the principles of design, and focus on repetition and variety to create their own Zentangles. Students will create an original work of art that expresses themselves through the use of Zentangles and ideas with a personal connection. Course Materials: Students must have access to a working computer that can access ZOOM. Pencil; Paper; Pen or Fine Tip Marker; Coloring utensils (Markers, Colored Pencils).: 9:00-10:00 am.

Online Sports Skills (Basketball)-Basketball is a commonly loved sport. In this training class, you will have a chance to learn the basics and build on skills you already have. This basketball training program will focus on ball handling, footwork, hand-eye coordination, and fitness. Course Materials: Basketball. Dress Code: For skills training, students should wear shoes and clothing appropriate for the safe and comfortable performance of athletic activities.: 11:00 am-12:00 pm.

CSI Digital Forensics Escape Room-In this totally digital escape room activity, students solve a forensic mystery using science and critical thinking. In the activities, students analyze 4 different pieces of evidence (fingerprints, shoe prints, unknown powder, and pen samples) and keep track of evidence and suspects. They use their power of observations to “crack the case” and prove their innocence by figuring out who really committed the crime. Course Materials - Students must have access to a working computer that can access ZOOM and other apps. 10:00-11:00 am. 

Introduction to Spanish-Introduction to Spanish will provide the student with a general introduction to the Spanish language: sound system, pronunciation, functional vocabulary related to everyday life, cultural information, and basic grammatical structures. Emphasis will be on the acquisition of four skills: listening, speaking, reading, and limited writing. There are two main objectives of the course. Foremost is to give the students the ability to carry on a simple conversation. The second is to provide the students with instruction that teaches a basic understanding of Spanish culture, vocabulary, and grammatical concepts. Course Materials - Students must have access to a working computer that can access ZOOM and other apps.  Students will also need paper and a pencil.: 1:00-2:00 pm.

Fitness-working on cardiovascular and muscular endurance. We will be using bodyweight.: 4:00-5:00 pm.

Baking Science-Baking is a science. Mostly, baking is physics and chemistry, both of which you will explore during this course. Almost all baking recipes call for flour, eggs, fat, sugar, and a leavening agent (baking soda or powder), and follow a standard sequence of steps.   What's a leavening agent? Why do I need this? This course will teach you how to interpret terminology,  read and follow recipes, understand the “why” behind the steps, and how to follow instructions precisely to get consistent results. That’s what science is about, accuracy in its methods and results that can be reproduced consistently. Course Materials - Students must have access to a working computer that can access ZOOM and baking ingredients (as noted below).  Materials include, but are not limited to: Two bags of All-purpose flour; Box of Rice Cereal; Box of Yellow Cake Mix; Carton of Eggs; Bag of  Granulated Sugar; Bag of Confectioners Sugar; Two Boxes of Stick Butter (Unsalted); Vanilla Flavoring; One Bottle of Light Corn Syrup; Cornstarch; Vegetable Oil; Milk; Baking Powder.: 9:00-10:00 am and 1:00-2:00 pm (select one session either in the am or pm).

Magic of Presentation-What do you get when you combine performing magic, stage presence, and public speaking skills? You get a polished, confident performer/presenter. These are valuable skill sets that are not only fun to learn - but incredibly fun to perform anywhere. Student presentations will be posted on YOUtube for students to share with family and friends. Course Materials - Students must have access to a working computer that can access ZOOM and or Flip Grid.: (2 sessions) 9:00-10:00 am and 1:00-2:00 pm.

Sculpting with Clay-This course is an introduction to sculpting with natural clay. Students will learn about the basic stages and techniques used for producing sculptures, given historical context, by being led through hands-on art projects. Course Materials- Students must have access to a working device that can access ZOOM and other apps. Online Theater-Virtual Theatre is fun! At MIS we continue to produce great episodes that are student-driven. Under the direction of Mr. Tone, Virtual Theatre engages students in all aspects of live theatre. Students dive into costume, voice, acting, even creating a set to perform in front of. Midtown International School is Atlanta's K-12 home for globally-minded, gifted learners. Our summer camps are interdisciplinary academic enrichment opportunities where students tackle big problems in creative and collaborative ways. All students enrolled in summer camps choose threads each week in the arts; science, robotics, or technology; math or engineering; literature, writing, or humanities; athletics; test prep; or foreign languages. There are new activities and opportunities every week! This year we will have a virtual summer camp where you will have the option of signing up your students for individual classes. The courses are designed to be one hour long thus limiting screen time. You also have the option of signing up for a morning, afternoon, and evening sessions.

Save the Government! Internet Scavenger Hunt WebQuest-This activity takes the traditional internet scavenger hunt (WebQuest) to the next level. The students will be set on a Top Secret mission to nab Robber Rick, the criminal who has stolen key components of our government system! In order to retain control of our great nation, the students must locate clues on various websites to get back all that Robber Rick has taken. This activity is presented in a Google Form format, though an optional printable recording sheet is available. Each clue also has a bit of scientific information for the students to read to further enhance the students' learning. Online Theater-Virtual Theatre is fun! At MIS we continue to produce great episodes that are student-driven. Under the direction of Mr. Tone, Virtual Theatre engages students in all aspects of live theatre. Students dive into costume, voice, acting, even creating a set to perform in front of. Sculpting with Clay-This course is an introduction to sculpting with natural clay. Students will learn about the basic stages and techniques used for producing sculptures, given historical context, by being led through hands-on art projects. Course Materials- Students must have access to a working device that can access ZOOM and other apps. Supply List: Arts and crafts material such as paper, pencil, protection for the table, paint, and natural air drying clay.

DNA Project (Building Emojis)-Students will have a blast building emojis on the computer as they learn the relationship between DNA, genes, protein, and traits. There are 6 emojis to choose from - build one or create the whole collection! Each emoji has a gene for color, eyes, mouth, and hair. First, students read the DNA sequences and then use the chart to see which "proteins" will be made. Next, they determine the traits that will develop as a result of the proteins that were made. Finally, students build the emoji by copying and pasting the traits from the "Emoji Parts" slide. Answer key and student examples included!
